Welcome!
Sebastian Wanzama-Piro

Sebastian Wanzama-Piro, Director,
Global African Village

Welcome, all of you global citizens. As an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, Global African Village, its Board of Directors, volunteers, and supporters are very glad to have you join us.

Everything seems to be global these days: the environment, trade, and political matters, just to mention a few. At Global African Village, we are not waiting for the world to change. We need your support now to supplement our efforts to assist the sick, the hungry, the very young, and the elderly in eastern Uganda.

Our primary goal is to assist the needy so they can sustain themselves. Otherwise, some will die prematurely, and others may end up at our doorsteps, an experience that can be traumatic and stressful.

We are pleased to announce our Amazing Grace Campaign to raise finds to build, furnish, and staff a health center for the Bagishu people. We invite you to support this very important endeavor.

So count your blessings now by sharing, caring, and enlightening others.

Thank you for your kindness.

What is Global African Village?

Proudly celebrating our 13th year assisting the Bagishu people of rural Uganda

Global African Village is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization working to alleviate the abject poverty that affects thousands of children, the elderly, and the sick every day. Our focus is assisting the Bagishu people of eastern Uganda (see Fact Sheet) with four primary projects: education, health care, infrastructure improvement, and small-business development.

Global African Village is incorporated as a nonprofit in the State of New York, and we have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in the US. We are also a registered charity in Ontario, Canada (# 17 46 06 1).

With no paid staff and no office, our operating expenses are quite small. About 95% of the funds we raise annually directly support our humanitarian work in Uganda.

We can be reached at globalafricanvillage@gmail.com or through Facebook.

- Welcome to volunteer Andrew Roland, Andrew, a high school junior in Tonawanda, NY, is helping us with fundraising.

- Thank you to La Hacienda Pizza, 900 Brighton Rd., Tonawanda, NY, for hosting a Global African Village change container. Please patronize this good business.

- June 2020:  Global African Village condemns the tragic murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN, on May 25, 2020.  We abhor racism, and we are deeply saddened by the brutal murder of this African American by a police officer.  For too long, systemic racism in the US and other countries has resulted in blacks being treated differently and often cruelly.  We also condemn oppressive African leaders who torture their citizens and deny them basic human rights as enshrined in the UN charter.  The massive diverse global demonstrations in support of George Floyd illustrate that an oppressor in the US is an oppressor throughout the world.  Global African Village’s humanitarian mission is to assist the impoverished Bagishu tribe in rural Uganda, to help them become more self-sufficient.  Whether blacks live in Uganda, the US, Canada, or elsewhere, their lives and their dignity matter very much to us.  All lives matter.

- Congratulations to Tyler Bingham, an enthusiastic Global African Village volunteer, who graduated from Niagara University in 2020. We are grateful to Tyler for redesigning our annual report.

- Thank you to St. Joseph University Church, Buffalo, NY, for inviting us to participate in their Alternative Christmas Marketplace in December 2019. A sincere thank-you to the many parishoners whose donations support our humanitarian work.

- We invite you to support Global African Village at AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com). Please tell your friends.

- We are grateful to the Levesque Institute at Niagara University for donating gently-used sandals from the Cave of the Winds tourist attraction in Niagara Falls, NY.  Students at Niagara University, under the direction of Dr. David Taylor, keep sandals that tourists no longer want out of landfills by sorting, cleaning, packing, and donating thousands of them to charities like ours. The sandals are then distributed to impoverished people around the world.  Our president, Sebastian Wanzana-Piro, has delivered several batches of sandals to Uganda.  More about this worthwhile project is at http://levesqueinstitute.niagara.edu/about/sandal-falls-project/.

- One of the photos at the top of this page shows the Bagishu villagers digging the Yetana Fish Pond. We are happy to report that they have finished digging this 62" x 25" x 4" pond, all by hand, and have laid the necessary PVC pipe. When finished, the fish pond will supplement the diet of many villagers. Please help us expand this project by supporting our fundraisers:

- We partnered with the ENACTUS (formerly SIFE, Students for Free Enterprise) chapter at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. In 2011, they awarded Global African Village a grant to inaugurate our "Buusale Kamani" project. This small-business grant program enabled five people in rural Uganda to expand their small businesses. "Buusale Kamani" is Swahili for "Friendship is Strength."

- In March 2010, devastating landslides occurred in the area of Uganda where we are working. At least 300 Bagishu villagers died. Thousands more were displaced to refugee camps, about 60 people to a tent, with poor sanitation, illness, and an uncertain future. To learn more about the landslides, go to http://www.monitor.co.ug/News/National/-/688334/873748/-/wj64nv/-/index.html; to read updates about the landslides and other news from Uganda, you can visit the Daily Monitor website.
